Tips & Ideas for the Odder Being Cards

You can use all of our card decks in different ways. Alone or with others. On this page, we’re sharing some of our tips.

How do you use your cards? Share your tips with us, mail cards@odderbeing.com.

Alone

You don’t need others to use our card decks. Use them alone to get more insight in yourself and your needs and wishes. An easy way is to simply draw a card and contemplate the answer, but we’ve got some other tips, too!

A vision board is a visual representation of what you desire. Many people create theirs using cutouts from magazines, but you can also draw your vision board. The great advantage of a vision board is that your brain responds more readily to images than to text. So, when you look at your vision board later, you’ll clearly remember what you want to focus on.

You can create a vision board for a specific theme in your life (such as starting a new job or having a child), or you might make one for each year to reflect your goals for that year.

We’re huge fans of vision boards. That’s why we’re sharing our tips to create one here.

Journaling is essentially about putting your thoughts onto paper. While many people do this through a diary, you can also journal on specific topics. Your deck of cards can assist with this! For example, you could draw one card each day and write down your thoughts or answers related to it. The longer you maintain this practice, the clearer your understanding of your own dreams and goals will become.

Are you already familiar with the BuJo, or bullet journal? This incredibly simple method for organizing the chaos in your life was developed by Ryder Carroll. It’s gained immense popularity—just check out the numerous hashtags on Instagram. The principle of the BuJo is straightforward: you use a notebook to keep daily to-do lists. But for many BuJo enthusiasts, it goes beyond that—fans design pages to track things like their plants or books they want to read. You can also integrate your Odder Being Vision Cards into your BuJo. For instance, you could answer one question each day from the cards and set a new goal based on that.

With our cards, you can set your priorities and make any planning system even more effective.

Together

Most of our decks can be used with others, as well (and some are even specifically created for this purpose). Here’s how!

Are you and your friends fully on the same page, or do you learn from each other’s differences? Use the vision cards to discuss your dreams. For instance, you may pick one theme to start with. Take a few moments to consider (or better yet – write down or draw) your answers to the questions. Once you’re done, share your results.

Do you know the game Dixit where your goal is to guess who came up with a certain image that fits a description? You can use this idea with vision cards, too. Write down your answers, then try to match the answers with their authors.

Ready to explore the shadows? Draw a card and discuss the challenges each of you faces in achieving the desired situation.

Want to get creative together? Here, you’ll find some tips to host your own vision board party.

Of course, you can discuss any topics with your partner(s), but the decks best suited for this purpose are the Relationship Cards, Polyamory Cards, and Parenting Cards.

Oftentimes, we take ideas for granted and forget our partner(s) may feel very differently. Use the cards to open up the conversation and learn more about each other.

Here’s how:

Shuffle the cards, then draw one.

Each of you reads the question and writes down their own answer. Are you brave enough to get vulnerable and really share your thoughts, even knowing your partner might have something different in mind?

Share your answers.

Discuss what you’ve learned. Are you on the same page? What differences are there? Is there room to compromise?

We have a special deck for teams. Together with your team, you’ll discuss your goals and ways to reach them.

A couple of tips:

  1. Some people tend to stay in the background. Encourage everyone to write down their answer and allow everyone to share before you start discussing your team’s vision. That one quiet person might have amazing ideas!
  2. Don’t constrain yourselves. Sure, maybe you’ve been doing something a certain way for over 20 years, but what would the ideal situation look like? Once you’re clear on that, you start exploring what’s possible. Oftentimes, it’s more than you’d think!
  3. Take your time. You don’t need to answer all questions in one session. Instead, pick a topic, or take turns picking a question to discuss.

We also have Career cards. Are you a team lead, or do you work in HR or people management, or recruitment? With these cards, you’ll help people discover what makes them tick!

With our cards, you can set your priorities and make any planning system even more effective.

Coaches love our cards! Which makes sense, since we developed them with coaching in mind. Those annoying, confronting questions a coach would ask you? Those are the ones you’ll find on our cards.

As a coach, you can use these cards in your practice to encourage your coachee’s self-reflection practice. Use them as a conversation starter, a session opener, or for homework.

A Mastermind Group is a group of people helping each other reach their goals. Some masterminds don’t have a set topic, others are geared towards a specific profession or subject.

Want to breathe some fresh air into your mastermind group? Start with a session where each of you creates their own vision board based on the cards’ questions. In the following sessions, you use these vision boards as a reminder of your goals. How is everyone progressing?

Some questions you could consider asking:

  • What’s something you’ve already accomplished?
  • What’s your biggest priority right now?
  • What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing and how can the others help you with this one?
