How do kids grow confidence? First, they rely on those around them! And not just their parents: kids listen to their teachers, extended family, and even classmates. Unfortunately, kids who march to the beat of their own drum often hear that they’re not good enough. They don’t do the things they’re supposed to do. They don’t like the things they’re supposed to like. Enough of that! We want kids to look inside and find the confidence within them. That’s why we created Kids’ Quest-ions, a deck of cards with questions that help kids understand themselves: who they are, what they’re good at, what they want, how they feel.
Which age group are the Kids’ Quest-ions for?
We designed these cards for kids age 6-12. With that said, it’ll also depend on your specific kid. If you think your kid may enjoy think about who they are and what they want – these cards will probably be a good fit.
What kind of topics can I expect?
In the Kids’ Quest-ions, you’ll find topics in seven different categories: the first category, ‘Being You’ is all about the kid’s identity. Other topics include friendships, school, home & family, dreams, personal responsibility & dealing with hard things. In each category, you’ll find 7 conversation starters.
Why are some words in these questions blue?
The blue words are so-called shape-shifters. These are words you can replace by other words to vary the question. For instance, in the question “Imagine you were an internet star, what would your videos be about?” you may want to use ‘blogs’ or some other medium, depending on what your kid likes best.
Our conversations stop after the one question. Can you help with that?
Absolutely! We’ve also created a digital Companion Guide that will help you start & deepen conversations. You’ll find ideas for follow-up questions, shapeshifter variations, and tips for helping your kid open up!
My kid gets bullied. Will these cards help?
Bullying is one of those things that can really wreck a kid’s confidence. These cards will help the kid focus on their own perspective, rather than what others tell them. We don’t think these cards are a one-stop-solution for bullying, but we’re confident they’ll help your kid see themselves in a new, better light!
My kid is autistic / has ADHD. Will these questions help?
In one word: yes. Odder Being cards are developed by neurodivergent people. We know the struggles faced by kids in a world that’s not designed for them. Kids’ Quest-ions will help them shed society’s expectations of how they should be and instead chart their own path of who they want to be.
My kid is gifted / twice-exceptional. Will these prompts help?
Yes! Gifted kids often feel misunderstood because their brain works differently from the way other kids’ brains work. Kids’ Quest-ions will challenge them and their creative thinking, and also encourage them to take charge of their own growth (something they often miss in schools that aren’t designed for their skills & talents).
I’m a coach / therapist / teacher. Can I use the Kids’ Quest-ions cards with the kids I work with?
Absolutely! Teachers, coaches & therapists love our cards. You can use the Kids’ Quest-ions to playfully start a conversation or leave a kid with something to consider in between sessions.
Can I order a paper copy of these cards?
Yes, you can find the paper copy here. The paper copy has the same questions as the digital one!
Do you have these prompts in different languages?
Yes! The Kids’ Quest-ions are also available in Spanish and we’re working on adding French, German, and Dutch.
